KCN Water Distribution Line – Phase 2

About this Project

Kehewin Cree Nation sponsored an upgrade the existing water treatment plan and provide water services to 68 residences. Option worked with the Nation to find cost savings of $2.5 million, providing an opportunity to expand the project scope to include additional phases (2B, 2A and Hwy 41). Option was also able to participate in the pilot program for Pehta, a new financial reporting tool for First Nations.

Construction particulars included, over an above landscape restoration

• Laydown and site preparation (clearing, grubbing and electrification)
• 200mm water main installation (10.5km) via HDD and two tie ins to the existing infrastructure
• Upgrades to the water treatment plan, including distribution pump system upgrade
• 68 residential service connections of 40mm pipe via HDD, one trickle feed system installation, the decommission of 70 residential cisterns
• Installation of air release valves (17), gate valves (13), and blow offs (5)

Extra work consisted of

• Ph 2B – 200mm water main installation via HDD (2.7km)
• Service connections via 40mm pipe via HDD; Ph 2B – 23 connections (2km) and decommission of 24 cisterns, Ph 2A – 11 service connections (1km) and decommission of 12 cisterns, Hwy 41 – eight service connections (1km), four cistern decommissions and four trickle feed system installations
• Ph 2B installation of air release valves (2), gate valves (3), and one blow off
